Take advantage of this, and leave the time-consuming details to the professionals! Resorts and hotels also typically offer a choice of several on-site locations (and backup plans for bad weather!), as well as other romantic additions to make your Barbados wedding absolutely perfect.

Each coast in Barbados contains its own unique personality, perfect for couples with a particular image of their wedding site in mind! From wild, windswept shores to the calm and tranquil bays, Barbados runs the gamut of any backdrop you could possibly imagine. All beaches in Barbados are open to the public by law – hotels may cast an imposing presence on some beaches, and may even charge you if you try to enter through their property, but there is always a public access area (even if it takes some searching to find it).

For tranquil, calm waters and pristine white sand, consider the west (“platinum”) coast, so called because of its many luxury resorts and famous visitors. The small to non-existent waves here lap languidly on the sand, while shady palm trees border the beach. Visitors commonly find amenities such as restrooms, bars, and restaurants, but occasionally at the cost of more crowded beaches. Check into one of the lovely hotels and allow a wedding planner to take care of the details for you while you relax in this world-renowned location! Brides take note, this is also the best coast for beautiful sunset weddings.

For couples that want drama, try the epic coasts of the east and north. Windswept, rugged, and surrounded by cliffs and hills, swimming is not really a possibility here. This probably means you’ll have to travel to this location from another hotel, and some locations might be a bit tricky to access, but the stunning beauty and panoramic views from the cliffs are well worth it.

The south coast falls into the middle of the eastern pounding waves and the western tranquility, with plenty of beautiful beaches for any kind of ceremony you can dream up! Below are descriptions of a few popular and excellent spots for beach weddings in Barbados.

Crane Beach

Claimed to be one of the most beautiful beaches in Barbados, this small stretch of pink sand sits on the southeastern side of the island, isolated from the popular Platinum Coast beaches of the west. Once a harbor, the beach takes its name from the crane that used to sit at the top of the cliff, loading and unloading ships as they came in. Visitors find waves in astonishing shades of blue rather than a perfectly calm bay, which create a dramatic background for a wedding ceremony. The Crane Hotel now sits perched at the top of the sheer cliff, one of the first resort hotels in Barbados.

The views from the hotel are sublime and come highly recommended – remain aware, however, that the Crane Hotel charges a $25 fee, plus extra for use of the lounge chairs, if you access the beach from their property. To avoid this, simply drive to the far north side of the beach and enter from the road for free.

This beach stays fairly secluded, and creates the perfect, intimate environment for a destination wedding – surrounded by the beautiful bay, dramatic cliffs, and glowing pink sand, this may be as close as it gets to perfection.

Bottom Bay

Also located on the southeastern side of Barbados, Bottom Bay is a favorite destination for visitors due to its sweeping beauty and relatively isolation. Take into account that you must access Bottom Bay either through the nearby resort, Sam Lords Castle, or through a set of stairs that head down the cliff face.

Once on the beach itself, you’ll fall in love with the windswept, simple Caribbean beauty. Instead of miles of lounge chairs, visitors find themselves, and a wide expanse of untouched shore dotted with tall palm trees. The water crashes dramatically onto the shore in waves – while not recommended for swimming, this beach certainly features dramatic views. Tall coral cliffs enclose most of the beach, giving the feeling of being completely closed off from the world in your own private paradise. The shore even contains a cave for exploration, and you’re certain to get some simply stunning wedding photographs. Take into account the capabilities of your wedding party to access the beach – this location may be best left to small, intimate ceremonies.

Cattlewash Beach

For a wedding ceremony in a truly dramatic setting, consider Cattlewash Beach on the eastern side of Barbados. Far from the placid, still waters of the western coast, the terrain here turns rugged and wildly beautiful, with huge rock formations strewn across the sand, hills, cliffs, and small protected pools. Instead of consistent spreads of soft white sand, surprises wait here at every turn, perfect for dramatic wedding photos! Visitors should refrain from trying to swim here because of the strong current, but Barbados eastern shore waves draw surfers from around the world. The longest beach in Barbados, and also one of the quietest, this perfectly serene beauty offers perfect site after perfect site for a small, private wedding ceremony.

Sandy Lane Beach

Home to the exclusive, world-famous Sandy Lane Beach Hotel, this beach sits on the Platinum (or as it’s sometimes known, the west coast) of Barbados, so-called for its opulent hotels and air of beauty and indulgence. This is where the stars and royalty come to play, and rightfully so – these beaches are stunning, with calmer waters than the eastern side of the island perfect for swimming, and lovely white sand beaches for tanning.

Sandy Lane Beach itself is narrow, with soft sand that extends all the way into the gentle, warm blue waters. Dotted with lounge chairs (not accessible to the public), and a hotel beach bar (that luckily is), the beach atmosphere varies from quiet to almost block party-like, depending on the time of year. For non-residents of the hotel, a public entrance sits south of the building. Plan your wedding through the hotel, and receive star treatment, or access the beach on your own – remember, regardless of hotel presence, beaches are public and hotels only own up to the high water mark according to law. Regardless of how you choose to access this beach, it promises to create an absolutely stunning, calm and cool Caribbean background for your destination wedding!

Brandon’s Beach

This lovely beach, only minutes from the capital city Bridgetown, features calm water, idyllic soft white sand and blue water, and a great atmosphere. Popular for water sports and swimming, clubs and bars sit within walking distance, and this beach often takes on a party-like atmosphere with a relaxed Caribbean vibe. Music, volleyball, and friendly conversation are just a few of the things you might see in this location.

Depending on what time you hold your ceremony, the beach may become a bit crowded, particularly if a cruise ship docks at the nearby terminal. No hotels sit on the beach, but the surrounding entertainment draws plenty of people. If this presents a problem, consider holding your ceremony early in the morning to take advantage of all the natural surrounding beauty.

Mullins Beach

Another extremely popular Barbados beach, Mullins features convenient amenities such as nearby bars, umbrellas, and a parking lot across the street – getting several guests and your wedding party to the location is easily accomplished! Perfect for wedding ceremonies, stand near the blue water lapping calmly on the soft white sand beach, and enjoy gorgeous views across the bay that seemingly never end. An exceptional location to tie the knot, you may have to deal with some extra people standing around, but the beauty is reason enough to hold your ceremony at this location.

Accra Beach (Rockley Beach)

Located on the south coast in Christ Church, this popular beach draws people who enjoy water sports and swimming, easily done at Accra Beach because of the mild waves. Vendors dot the shore, and people spread across the side, long expanse of white sand taking in the rays. Shade from seagrape and trees relieve some of the heat.

Because of the beach’s popularity, a secluded and private ceremony may prove difficult to plan. Try coming early or later in the evening to avoid crowds. Because of its size and length, Accra Beach proves ideal for larger groups to attend your wedding!

Imagine a private wedding in your very own Barbados villa, far from the tourist crowds and noises of the cities and resorts. A naturally intimate environment, villas provides couples with plenty of room for a romantic ceremony, reception, and honeymoon, with as many or as few people as they would prefer. Many Barbados villas come staffed with chefs and maids upon request, and feature luxurious amenities such as beach access, fully equipped kitchens and living spaces, pools, and spacious outdoor areas for taking in the beautiful Barbados scenery. Choose anywhere from one bedroom to several, and plan the perfect, intimate Caribbean wedding of your dreams.

For ceremonies in a Barbados church, first communicate closely with your religious leader from home about your wedding plans, and to find out what your religion’s rules permit in terms of location. Either you or a wedding planner can contact the minister of the Barbados church, although an island wedding planner may have prior knowledge and experience dealing with your chosen church. Be sure to begin planning for a religious ceremony early, as they require more fees and details.
